Night Guards

Night Guards
At Family Dental Rego Park, we see many patients who suffer from bruxism, or teeth grinding. While many do this consciously throughout the day, even more grind their teeth at night while sleeping. Bruxism can cause damage to your enamel, jaw pain, headaches and gum irritation, so it is important to treat it. Night guards are the best way to prevent the negative effects of teeth grinding.

Similar to those worn by athletes, night guards provide a barrier between your top and bottom teeth when you sleep. By reducing wear to your teeth and making it harder for you to grind, your teeth will be healthier and you will feel better overall. We custom fit these night guards at Family Dental Rego Park to make them as comfortable as possible. If you are a night grinder, we will take an impression of your teeth and have a mouth guard created in our dental lab. These guards are very durable and can last for up to 10 years.

If you find yourself frequently waking up with headaches or pain in your jaw, it is very possible that you grind in your sleep. Often those who do not treat their bruxism end up with TMD, and they can even change the appearance of their face. To diagnose and treat your night grinding, call (718) 699-8268 and schedule an appointment.

Invisalign

Invisalign
At Family Dental Rego Park, we offer Invisalign braces so that you can straighten your teeth without a mouth full of metal. Using a series of clear plastic aligners, our doctors will guide you teeth into a smile you won’t be able to stop showing off.

While regular braces are still best for more serious cases of teeth straightening, Invisalign is great for cases of mild to moderate spacing or crowding. For these cases, Invisalign provides teeth correction that bypasses the discomfort, sores and restrictive diet that those who have traditional braces must face.

With a computer program that generates a series of aligners with small changes in each, Invisalign will allow you to straighten your teeth without anyone even knowing. Virtually invisible, the aligners are made of a thin, comfortable plastic, and, unlike traditional braces, they are removable. Because they can be removed easily, you will be able to clean your teeth and eat normally. Therefore, your teeth will not experience the same discoloration and plaque buildup that can occur with metal brackets and wire. In addition, you will still be able to eat all the foods you like, such as popcorn, chips, pretzels, nuts, apples, carrots and corn.

If you think Invisalign might be the best option for you to achieve the smile you’ve been dreaming of, call us at (718) 699-8268 and schedule an appointment with Dr. Bishod Verma or Dr. Supriya Verma.

Dentures

Dentures
Dentures are an option that many of our patients choose at Family Dental Rego Park. Available in both full and partial, dentures serve as a removable replacement for missing teeth.

If providing patients with conventional full dentures, either Dr. Binod Verma or Dr. Supriya Verma will remove all the teeth from the patient’s mouth. Afterwards, the gums are given time to heal before dentures are placed. The patient would be without teeth during this healing process, which can take a couple months.

Immediate full dentures forgo this healing process with no teeth. Prior to having their teeth removed, the dentist takes measurements of the patient’s mouth, so that dentures are ready after teeth have been removed. This type of full denture requires a follow-up visit to refit the dentures wince the jaw bone will slightly change shape as the mouth heals.

Partial dentures are another option for those who do not need all their teeth to be removed. This makes them similar to bridges, but partial dentures are not permanent fixtures.

Whichever dentures our patients choose, they take time getting used to, and even though they are not real teeth, they should still be cared for as if they were. They should be brushed before removal and should be placed in room temperature water or cleaning solution overnight.
To find out if dentures are the right choice for you, call us at (718) 699-8268.

Wisdom Teeth Extractions

Wisdom Teeth Extractions
At Family Dental Rego Park, wisdom teeth extractions are fairly common. Your last set of molars to come in, wisdom teeth usually emerge when you are between 17 and 21 years old. Since wisdom teeth can often become impacted, which means they come in at an angle, it is necessary to remove them before they cause pain or begin to push your other teeth.

If a wisdom tooth is impacted and can only emerge partially, it is possible for an operculum to form over the tooth. If this flap of skin forms, the tooth will be hard to clean and can become infected. This infection is called pericoronitis.

When a wisdom tooth is in danger of causing such problems, Dr. Binod Verma or Dr. Supriya Verma will extract the tooth. Often it is necessary to remove all four at once. This is done either by using a local anesthetic or a general anesthetic, based on the preference of the doctors and patient. After the anesthetic is applied, the gum tissue around the wisdom tooth is cut and the tooth is loosened and pulled out. If necessary, the gums will be sutured for healing.

After the surgery, rest is required, and you will need to change the gauze applied to the incision. To see if your wisdom teeth may need to be removed, schedule an appointment with us by calling (718) 699-8268.

Nitrous Oxide

At Family Dental Rego Park, it is our mission to help our patients feel as comfortable as possible during their appointments. Among the sedation methods we provide, nitrous oxide is one of the most commonly used.

Nitrous oxide, also called laughing gas, is given by placing a mask over their nose, which is how the patient inhales the non-flammable gas. It has very minimal odor and taste, but is not foul. There are no detrimental side effects or risks tied to nitrous oxide, as well as no known allergy responses. It is safe for patients of all ages, and helps the patient relax more during their procedures.

Another benefit to nitrous oxide is that it wears off almost immediately, so patients are free to drive after the appointment and return to their normal activities right away. Nitrous oxide is offered to patients for a variety of procedures, like root canals, extractions, deep cleaning or other periodontal procedures, fillings and even routine cleanings. Patients with dental anxiety find that it takes the edge off successfully.

Call Dr. Binod Verma at 718-699-8268 to discuss using nitrous oxide for your next appointment.

Root Canal Therapy

Endodontics is the dental specialty that deals with the nerves of the teeth, and root canal therapy is the most common procedure within endodontics. Dr. Binod Verma offers root canal therapy to patients with a deep infection in the nerves of their teeth, as an alternative to tooth extraction. During a root canal, the nerves of the teeth are removed, as well as any other infected tissue. Here is a breakdown of the procedure:

1. The patient receives local anesthesia so they don’t experience any pain.
2. We drill a small hole into the tooth to reach the canal.
3. Infected tissue and nerves are removed using a special tool.
4. Once the infection is gone, the hole is filled with gutta percha.
5. The patient returns to our office in two weeks to be fitted with a crown.

It is important that patients not skip the process of getting a crown, because without nerves, the tooth becomes dead. This makes it susceptible to breaking off, and requiring a bridge or dental implant to replace it. Visit Family Dental Rego Park in Elmhurst, NY to schedule your root canal therapy appointment.

Bone Regenerating Procedures

Here at Family Dental Rego Park, we want our patients to look and feel their best. Unfortunately, many patients are struggling with periodontal gum disease that causes lack of bone density. This can cause them to miss out on essential treatment options, like implant or implant-supported dentures for missing teeth.

Bone loss can occur from many different things, such as having a missing tooth or severe periodontal disease. We offer bone regenerating procedures, such as bone grafting, to help with bone loss in our patients.

The bone graft is the most common bone regenerating procedure performed by Dr. Binod Verma. It utilizes healthy tissue and bone from other parts of the patient’s body, as well as some synthetic materials. This is inserted into the gums and attached to a nearby tooth, where hopefully it encourages the regeneration of bone.

We also stress the importance of preventing bone loss by brushing twice a day and flossing once a day, visiting us twice a year for check-ups and cleanings, and replacing missing teeth as soon as possible. Call our dental office at 718-699-8268 to learn more.
