Dental Implants

Having missing teeth is often embarrassing and frustrating. It keeps patients from being comfortable with smiling, but it also makes it difficult to do other normal everyday routine , like talking and eating. .
The Dental implants resembles and functions like natural teeth and it prevents patients  from being embrassed by loose denture,  as jaw bone continuouly dissolves under pressure of Denture and natural process of Bone loss due to missing teeth.  patients have the opportunity to replace their missing teeth with Dental Implant  without having to get Dentures or Dental bridges. Dental implants are done by  inserting the body of Implant in the Jaw bone which is  usually  made of Titanium . Depending on the  quality of Bone and the patient's need , the implant body can be immediately restored with Implant  Abutment and Crown   or left to heal for 4/5 months to integrate and then restored  . From beginning to end, dental implants in our practice take 3-6 months and 2-3 visits. .  The Implant retained Teeth restoration is cost effective because , it minimizes the speed of Bone loss and prevents any damage to adjacemt teeth . If the missing teeth is repalced by Partial Denture , it causes decay and loosenes of the adjacent tooth holding the paretial denture. Other  method of restoring missing teerth is by  Fixed bridge. In order for fabricating Fixed Bridge , Abutment tooth to hold the Bridge needs to be grinded to place a crown and  the missing tooth is joined to the abutment tooth  with another Crown called Pontic. The Abutment tooth  of Fixed  Bridge  almost always gets  deacyed and develpoes Periodontal disease ( The reson being because  Patient is not meticulous in cleaning under the Fixed bridge)  . The decayed and Periodontally affected Abutment teeth at last needs to be extracted and the another bridge needs to be fabricated by grinding another set of present teeth . With Dental implant , the restoration last longer with proper care .

Dentures

Denture could be Full Denture or Partial Denture , depending  on the number oif missing teeth. It is important to know that Full denture can not function like natural teeth and the chewing efficiency is reduced to 10% .The chewing efficacy can be increased by Implant supported Full Denture called Over Denture . Full Denture in Lower  jaw has  special problem of retention  due to poor ridge . In order to improve retention  of Lower full denture , a minimum of  Two dental implants can  be placed. Depending on number of Dental  Implants placed in Jaw bone , the Denture could be made Full Implant retained or Tissue and Implant retained .

Sleep Apnea

Not many people know that their local dentist might just be their best solution when it comes to the treatment of sleep apnea. Dentists play an important role in the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea. Specific therapy for sleep apnea is tailored to the individual needs of each patient based on their medical history, physical examination and results from different testing. Our dentist, Dr. Binod Verma has trained extensively in the management and treatment of sleep apnea and offers innovative treatment options to his patients.

Sleep apnea is a very common condition that is treatable. Traditionally, sleep apnea affects men over the age of forty, but it can be diagnosed in almost anyone, including children. There are different types of sleep apnea, but obstructive sleep apnea is the most commonly diagnosed and treated by dentists. Obstructive sleep apnea occurs when the soft tissue in the back of the throat relaxes during sleep and blocks the airways. If left untreated, breathing becomes interrupted or very slow during sleep. Sleep apnea is a serious condition that can lead to heart attack, stroke, mental confusion, rise in blood pressure and sleepiness during daytime.

Patients suffering from sleep apnea will often report the following symptoms:
  • Waking up with a sore or dry mouth
  • Loud snoring
  • Sleepiness
  • Morning headaches
  • Restless sleep
There are many different treatment options for those suffering from sleep apnea. Dr. Verma treats his patients using oral appliances and oral surgery. Through procedures like osseous surgery or osseous grafting, Dr. Verma is able to lessen the symptoms of sleep apnea. These procedures are done in order to prevent snoring and discontinue any sleep apnea side effects.

Dentures

Dentures
Dentures are an option that many of our patients choose at Family Dental Rego Park. Available in both full and partial, dentures serve as a removable replacement for missing teeth.

If providing patients with conventional full dentures, either Dr. Binod Verma or Dr. Supriya Verma will remove all the teeth from the patient’s mouth. Afterwards, the gums are given time to heal before dentures are placed. The patient would be without teeth during this healing process, which can take a couple months.

Immediate full dentures forgo this healing process with no teeth. Prior to having their teeth removed, the dentist takes measurements of the patient’s mouth, so that dentures are ready after teeth have been removed. This type of full denture requires a follow-up visit to refit the dentures wince the jaw bone will slightly change shape as the mouth heals.

Partial dentures are another option for those who do not need all their teeth to be removed. This makes them similar to bridges, but partial dentures are not permanent fixtures.

Whichever dentures our patients choose, they take time getting used to, and even though they are not real teeth, they should still be cared for as if they were. They should be brushed before removal and should be placed in room temperature water or cleaning solution overnight.
